Samantha Fish Plays Her Cigar Box Guitar Live in Manchester, NH

Written by Shawn McCadden | March 18, 2022

I went to see the Samantha Fish band play live at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, NH last night.  What a great way to spend Saint Patrick’s Day night!  It’s a great small place to see a show, with no bad seats in the house.  Samantha was the warm up band for headliner the Devon Allman Project.  I went to see Samantha, but Devon and his band did not disappoint.  Before Samantha a two women band called the River Kittens opened for her, they too lit up the crowd.

Being a cigar box guitar enthusiast I was hoping Samantha would pull out hers for a tune or two.  She brought out her Stogie Box Blues 4 string and cranked out on her tune titled Bulletproof. It was amazing.  Check it out:

The Devon Allman Project had special guests Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie) & Larry McCray play several tunes with them.  I first saw Jimmy Hall live on the Rock Legends Cruise in 2020 and became a fan of his great style and enthusiasm on stage.  As part of the encore Samantha and the River Kittens joined the whole gang for a great rendition of Wet Willie’s tune Keep on Smiling. It brought back great memories from my youth!  Check it out:

Of course being an Irishman with a name like Shawn Patrick McCadden I had a really lucky night.  First, after I parked, I walked down to the main street and right in front of me was Castro’s Back Room, a cigar shop and lounge.  The place was packed and I asked the cigar shop clerk “Q” if he had any cigar boxes.  Sure enough he had a stack of empties and I scored some great ones, including three Camachos as well as a box I stuffed full of cigar bands!  At the show I had a box seat with an awesome up close view as you can see in my videos.  Then, at the end of the show, I made a bee-line up to the sound booth, nicely asked, and received the set lists for both bands!  No Blarney!
