Interesting CBG Builds by Others: The 240 Volt Deluxe
I’m always poking around the internet to find interesting Cigar Box Guitar builds. I am constantly amazed at the creative ways people use and reuse common materials to create unique looking and sounding Cigar Box Guitars and similar primitive instruments. It’s not just the creative use of materials either that amazes me, it’s also the creativity of the people building them. So many are truly artists.
The 240 Volt Deluxe
A week or so ago I discovered the “240 Volt Deluxe” while exploring thru EBay, built by Snow City Artisans out of McDonald, OH. It’s a 3 string all steel cigar box guitar and the body is made out of an old electric service box. Having been a remodeling contractor for years it caught my eye
right away.
The builder describes it’s also built using stainless steel square tubing and expanded metal. You can see in the pictures the expanded metal is used as sound hole covers, likely installed in all the holes where the wire clamps originally were installed. This fret-less cigar box guitar is all TIG welded together with stainless rod. Truly a one of a kind build by someone who is not only an artist and a craftsman, but also knows how to play!
I’m curious what my friend Tom at Shafnisky Electric thinks of this build! I’m sure he and his team could supply some parts and pieces for repurposing.
Here’s a demo of the 240 Volt Deluxe played “clean”:
